Pr Forni trained in medicine in London and his postgraduate training was spent principally at St George’s Hospital and St Thomas’ hospital. Early research focussed on the chemical mechanisms underpinning oxidative stress but later focussed principally in nephrology and critical care particularly in buffering agents for CRRT and acid-base balance. He has been a consultant in ICM and Nephrology for over 20 years and is currently general secretary of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine having previously been research chair. Current research interests include the use of biomarkers of AKI, blood purification techniques and the use of haemodynamic monitoring outside the ICU. He lectures extensively on AKI in the critically ill locally, nationally and internationally. When nota t work he is either playing guitar (badly), sailing or watching Tottenham Hotspur FC.
